Welcome to my blog, or as I like to view it, a diary where I ramble and lay my soul bare in a way that helps me heal.
My name is Megan, but you can call me Meg. On May 10th 2020, I survived a stroke in the right side of my cerebellum (which is the weird-looking ‘mini brain’ at the back of your head). The type of stroke I had is known as ischemic, which is where a blood clot blocks the flow to the brain, resulting in tissue death.
You read that right, I have dead brain cells that cannot grow back. Yet the brain is incredible and will ‘re-wire’ itself, allowing for new connections in the healthy parts of your brain. So while I do joke about it, I am quite literally brain damaged.
That leads me to the title of this blog, Me and My Damaged Brain. I want to use this blog to document my stroke as a form of healing and how my life has changed as a result. While my stroke is only one of the issues I manage, it will initially be my main focus. So, however you may have found me here, either as a stroke survivor, mental health suffer, or nosey onlooker (I’m only joking), please treat this blog with kindness.
Thank you, Meg
